Matthew 28:16-20 · The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

“Jesus wept” . . . over Jerusalem, not just over the Temple. Place matters.

We've made non-places of our neighborhoods and "places" of our temples.

I am a product of a “place,” a “place” called mountain culture. More specifically, my “place” is the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia, and the Adirondack mountains of upstate New York. That means I grew up with grits and gravy, pinto beans and stewed tomatoes, biscuits and apple butter. We ate supper, not dinner. And we said things like, “I’ll be there . . . Lord willing, Jesus tarrying, creek (crik) not rising, Moses not prohibiting . . . “  

I don’t know the last time I used that phrase, rarely if ever do I eat pinto beans and stewed tomatoes now. But you know, there is a part of mountain culture that stays …
