First Lesson: Isaiah 6:1-8

Theme: God’s cleansing call, our valid vocation

Exegetical Note
The vision and call of Isaiah recounted here is a study in the gracious action of God: though by his own admission the candidate is sinful and unworthy, God first forgives and cleanses him and then issues the call; Isaiah, initially overwhelmed with his own unworthiness before God’s holiness, is thus free to accept the validity of his vocation with eager self-confidence.
