[JESUS stands before the BISHOP and the FIRST and SECOND CLERGYMEN.]

BISHOP: Do you still defy us?

JESUS: If I have done something wrong, tell me what it Is.

BISHOP: You can answer that yourself. What are you trying to teach?

JESUS: You could have come to hear me.

FIRST CLERGYMAN: Mind your tongue.

SECOND CLERGYMAN: That’s no way to talk to the Bishop.

BISHOP: Let it pass. We know his offense. It would have been better, my friend, if you had come to us.

JESUS: I am here. Do you accept me?

BISHOP: You must first acknowledge our authority. We are the spiritual leaders of the people.

JESUS: You are the blind leaders of the blind.

BISHOP: I see that you are hardened in your ways.
