Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have ever heard of the word taxes? (Let them answer.) What are taxes? (Let them answer.) Taxes are money that your parents pay for things that we use. We like to complain about taxes, and we always think that our taxes are too high and they cost too much, but they are something that we must have to keep our country running.

Let me show you some things that our taxes buy. (Show them a street sign like 55 MPH or NO PARKING.) How many of you have seen a sign like this when you are riding in the car? We call them street signs, and our taxes pay for these signs. We need these signs to keep the roads that we drive on safe for traffic. Our taxes also pay for the streets and roads that we travel on…
