What's Your Position?

Some time ago, out in the Pacific Ocean, a yacht was caught in a severe winter storm and it began to sink. The financier who owned the yacht became desperate and quickly got on his radio to call for help.  He sent out one SOS after the other, hoping that someone would pick up his signal.

Finally, a Coast Guard cutter heard him.  "We're on the way," radioed the Coast Guard. "What is your position? We repeat, what is your position?"

You'll never believe what the man said.  As clearly as everything his voice came over the radio.  "I’m the chairman of the board of first National Bank and Trust Company. Please hurry."  Sometimes people get so hung up with their own position and status in life that they virtually lose sight of everything else. All of us desperately need acceptance and intimacy.  We need to feel connected.  Without that connection, we may have a position, but it doesn't give us fulfillment as persons.
