Theme: Suffering as integral to Servanthood
Exegetical Note
In this so-called "Third Servant Song" of Second Isaiah, the servant (apparently an individual here rather than the collective Israel as elsewhere) has suffered on account of his divine calling, and anticipates doing so in the future; still he exhibits certainty of receiving God's eventual help and vindication.
