Theme: The threefold name of God

Exegetical note:
Matthew's version of the great commission contained here provides the clearest scriptural statement of the trinitarian formula that would later become the Trinitarian doctrine of orthodox Christianity. Important here is the context given by Jesus for this charge: it is a matter of authority, which has been given to him, and which he, in turn, is passing along to those who will be in mission in the threefold name of God.
