To Quote Jack London

A sportswriter visiting Raiders' headquarters in California was interviewing the team's quarterback, Ken Stabler, the sportwriter quoted some prose by Jack London: "I would rather be ashes than dust. I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot. The proper function of men is to live, not exist." Stabler nodded his head.

"What does that mean to you?" the sportswriter asked.

"Throw deep," Stabler replied.

I like that. That's singularity of focus. When confronted by beautiful meaningful prose Stabler applied it to what he knows: Throw deep.
