Sermon for October 11, 2015 at the Beaufort Church of the Nazarene, Beaufort, South Carolina
WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MAN...I had a restless heart.
I WAS MOODY...reflective...never seeming to be completely satisfied with where I was...never totally satisfied with who I was...rarely satisfied with the way things were.
I GREW UP IN A HOME OF TURMOIL...Dad drank a little too much...Mom had a little too much of a roving eye...
...THERE WERE DISAGREEMENTS,..arguments...fights...
...AND IN MY YOUNG HEART...I yearned for a calmer place...a quieter time...
...BUT THE REALITY WAS...I could not foresee where things might change...
...WHERE THINGS COULD BE DIFFERENT...and so my heart hardened.
RELATIONSHIPS WERE ALWAYS A SURFACE THING...as I moved from place to place...we were a military family...I had no real roo…
