The Withering of the Wicked and the Flourishing of the Righteous

Initially Psalm 92 sounds like a psalm of the individual (esp. vv. 4, 10–11), but several features point to its liturgical use in a corporate setting. The speaker refers to “our God” (v. 13), implying he does not sing alone. The psalm contains several hymnic features typical of corporate worship (noted below) and several parallels with Psalms 52 and 75, both of which reflect corporate, liturgical worship. The speaking “I” may thus be a representative liturgist. The opening section calls for praise, the middle section states God’s judgment on the wicked as the reason for the praise, and the final section celebrates the contrasting destiny of God’s people at the temple and calls for further praise.
