Mr. Tutter Pole was the instigator of the famous “silent minute.”  At 9 p.m. during World War II when Big Ben in London began striking, millions of people throughout the world prayed this prayer: “May Thy will be done on earth.  Show me how to do my part.”

In the introduction to Mr. Pole’s book, Written on the Ground, it is mentioned that after the war when a British intelligence officer was interrogating high Nazi officials and asked one of them why he thought Germany had lost the war, this was the reply:  “During the war you had a secret weapon for which we could find no countermeasure and which we did not understand, but it was very powerful.  It was associated with the striking of Big Ben every evening.  I believe you called it ‘the silent minute.’”

Most of us need more than a silent minute, though this is a good place to start.  One minute a day as you wake, or at lunch, or on going to sleep: “May Thy will be done on earth.  Show me how to do my part.”
