In his commentary on this passage, Kent Hughes writes of William Borden, a wealthy heir who lived in Chicago early in the last century. He was brilliant, receiving his education from Yale and Princeton. As a young man, he felt called to take the Gospel to Muslims in China. He gave away much of his fortune, equivalent to $10,000,000 in today's dollars. At twenty-six he left for Egypt where he contracted cerebral meningitis. Before he died he scribbled on a note, "No reserve, No retreat, No regrets." You don't have to be a missionary to approach life for Christ in this way. But you do have to be persuaded that the measure of your own calling is the worth of Christ's sacrifice.
