I always wondered what Jesus would do with Mother's Day. There was no such thing in his time, as you know. And contrary to what some people think, Mother's Day is not one of the holy days in the Church's calendar. But I still wonder about Jesus. What would Jesus have done with Mother's Day?

Of course, we don't know. But we do know that there was a command, one of the Ten Commandments, to honor your father and your mother. It is a tradition, we are told, that he did observe. The testimony is in two places, both in the Gospel of Luke and in the Gospel of John. And when you consider how few incidents out of his life could get into the record of his life, it is amazing that two of those incidents would be recording his obedience to the command, "Honor your father and your mother."
