The phrase “the sun of righteousness” is to be understood in the sense of Isaiah’s prophecies. Righteousness represents the effects of God’s righteousness on this earth: victory and glory (Isa. 51:6–7; 62:1–2). Yahweh shares his victory and glory with his people. They will experience the fullness of the restoration as a healing process. Regardless of their suffering in life, Yahweh guarantees that his victory and his restoration will be shared by his own.
