Lesson: Here is a modern day example of something that was used a long time ago to indicate one man's friendship for another person. Before David was the King of Israel, he had an enemy who wanted to kill him even though David wanted to be his friend. One of David's best friends was the son of this enemy. David wanted to come and talk to this man who did not like him, but he was not sure that it would be safe.
