Liminal space is a term used by cultural anthropologists to describe in-between or transitional passages of communities. It describes those times when the past is no longer sustainable, and the future is not yet clear. The present is a time of unsettledness, unable to rely on the past and unsure about the future. There are some who are sure that the United States is in liminal space, making a transition toward a new, yet unknown future. I believe that’s true.
