Solomon’s Other Projects: Whereas the construction of the temple in Jerusalem carries the most emphasis in the Chronicler’s narrative about Solomon, some of the other projects of the king are summarized in a brief section as well. The temporal remark in 8:1 indicates that the temple construction took twenty years and that at the end of this period some other projects were initiated. Second Chronicles 8:1–6 briefly summarizes some other building projects that were undertaken. Second Chronicles 8:7–10 reports on Solomon’s conscription of laborers and his appointment of his officials, concluding in 8:11 with the mention of Solomon’s Egyptian wife.
