Shishak Attacks Jerusalem: 12:1–12 The Chronicler reports on the campaign of Shishak king of Egypt against Jerusalem, which took place in approximately 926/925 B.C. This is not, however, a neutral report about a military event in Judah’s history. The Chronicler’s very creative usage of source material from 1 Kings 14:21–28 indicates that this subsection presents the turning point in Rehoboam’s reign. As soon as his kingdom was established (Hebrew kun) and he became strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the law of the LORD (12:1—a radical adaptation of the source text in 1 Kgs. 14:22–24).
