Seeing Is Not Always Believing

My brain is trained to see insects! 

I can see an insect from across a room! On a ceiling. When it’s the size of a pin!

It’s the same faculty that allows moms (especially new moms) to wake from a deep sleep because across the house, she heard her baby sigh.

It’s the same faculty that allows a dog to start barking at an empty space. You see nothing. But the dog has already seen that rabbit from across the lawn, and it’s going to make its way here. Or not! But that’s irrelevant to the dog. Because he saw it move!

The same way the dog’s brain is trained to see a rabbit across the lawn and that new mom can hear her baby sigh from several rooms away while in the midst of sleep – my brain can spot an insect anywhere in a room, even when no one else can see it!
