Acts 27:27 - "... about midnight the sailors suspected that they were nearing land."
Because of its situation, the sea was never a means of travel for the Hebrews, although they were familiar with sea-going peoples, such as the Phoenicians, and certainly were cognizant of the terminology and risks of water travel. However, at very few periods within their history can we speak of sailors in regard to the Hebrews themselves.
