Rehoboam's Family: 11:18–23 These verses are without parallel in the source text in Kings. This subsection still continues the theme of the previous two pericopes, in which the consolidation of the kingdom under Rehoboam is a central motif. Whereas 11:5–12 confirmed the Judahite king’s sphere of influence in terms of city building and defense, 11:13–17 had the consolidation of the Jerusalem cult as its theme. In the present subsection the consolidation of Rehoboam’s family becomes the focal point.
