Proper 15
Romans 11:11-24

Theme: God's irrevocable grace

Exegetical note
Paul's deep concern for his fellow Jews finds expression here in the now seemingly desperate hope that somehow their rejection of the gospel has worked to make it more attractive to Gentiles, whose acceptance of it in turn will make the Jews jealous and lead some, at least, finally to it. By far the most timeless declaration is in v. 29, to the effect that God's gifts and call are irrevocable.
