Theme: Murmuring against God

Exegetical Note
The reaction of the wandering Israelites to their new-found freedom from captivity was almost predictably human: the grass, it seems, had been greener in Egypt than it was now in the desert. Specifically, they were hungry, and "murmured" against God, who responded, not vindictively, but graciously by providing food morning and evening.
