Theme: Trusting God's promises
Exegetical Note
Despite its centrality in the history of the Jewish people, the story of the Passover has some troubling aspects, not the least of which is the image of a God who would strike down the first-born - presumably including some children - of any nation. The most useful image here, therefore, may be that in verse 11: so certain are the Israelites of God's acting in their behalf, they eat clothed for the promised journey.
