Hard on the heels of a very abbreviated Lord's prayer (vv. 2b-4), Luke inserts two quasi-parables framed as rhetorical questions. Their point is that prayers should be approached in a positive frame of mind, based on the assurance that God may be relied upon at least as much as a friend asking an inconveniencing favor or a parent responding to a child's request for food.
