David Orders Solomon to Build the Temple: The previous text (1 Chron. 21:1–22:1) dealt with an important nexus in the Chronicler’s construction of his narrative. Before the identification of the Jebusite threshing floor as site for the future temple, the most prominent aspect of the narrative was the history of David. We saw how Yahweh transferred the kingship from Saul to David (1 Chron. 10). We journeyed with David through the first, unsuccessful attempt to bring the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem (1 Chron. 13), and we witnessed how the Levites carried the ark from Kiriath Jearim to the City of David (1 Chron. 15–16).
