Adalai Stevenson once told a story about a young man who approached the father of his beloved to ask approval for their joining in matrimony. The father was skeptical. "I doubt very much," he said, "that you will ever be able to support my daughter. I can barely manage it myself." The young man thought for a moment and replied, "Sir, I believe I have it.
