Gospel Note
This portion of John's farewell discourse contains Jesus' parting promise of "Paraclete" (Advocate, Counselor, Helper) whose role is described here as mainly pedagogical: It is the Spirit of truth (v. 17), which will teach the disciples and remind them of Jesus' teachings (v. 26). The fact that Jesus refers to the Spirit as "another Counselor" suggests that he regards himself as a Paraclete, too.
