Reader 1: Dag Hammarskjold died ________ years ago today -- September 18, 1961. At the time of his death he had been Secretary General of the United Nations for eight years. He died in a mysterious plane crash in the African jungle. Sabotage? Shot down by one of the warring factions in the Belgian Congo crisis? No one knows. He had gone there to mediate a cease-fire. Two days after his death, the cease-fire was achieved.
