Object: a pacifier

Lesson He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm.

Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you have seen one of these before? (Wait for show of hands.) How many of you have used one of these? (Wait for show of hands.) What do we use this for? (Let them respond.) That's right, it's a pacifier and babies suck on it and sometimes it keeps them calm and peaceful. Some babies suck their thumbs instead of a pacifier.

I remember one time a little baby was going to be baptized. He had a pacifier like this in his mouth. He was not a fussy baby as long as he had his pacifier in his mouth. But his mom said she thought it didn't look very nice to have it in his mouth during the baptism at the front of…
