Other Clans of Judah: 4:1–20 In this subsection the Chronicler returns to the head of the genealogy under discussion from 2:3 onward, namely, Judah. First Chronicles 4:1 is a brief, linear summary of the genealogies presented in 2:2–55, although the lineage presented here differs from the earlier presentation. The names in this subsection create the impression of a haphazard compilation of names mentioned earlier in the Judahite genealogy. The literary effect is that of comprehensiveness. We do not find any parallel to this specific genealogy in any other part of the Hebrew Bible. It might well be, then, that the Chronicler created this amalgam in order to sandwich the Davidic and Solomonic family lists (discussed in the previous subsections) into the genealogy of Judah.
