Menninger, the co-founder of the world-famous Menninger Clinic of Topeka, Kansas, wrote about "Emotional Maturity" and this essay became the last chapter in a collection of his writings, Living in a Troubled World. In the last paragraph of the chapter, he said, "Certainly the world could never before have had more grief and unhappiness and human turmoil than currently exists.
