The denials of the Baptist are now complete, and the way is clear for true testimony to Jesus to begin (1:29–34). Note that this is not a narrative of Jesus’s baptism but a testimony, an account in John’s own words confessing the identity of Jesus. That Jesus is announced as “the Lamb of God” is striking (1:29).
