Guard - typical Roman soldier.

Claudia Procula - wife of Pilate; sensitive, caring, and very supportive of her husband.

Ruth - a Jewess who serves as the handmaid of Claudia Procula.

The scene opens with Caiaphas standing outside the communion rail, symbolic of his refusal to enter into a Gentile home. He is joined momentarily by Pilate.

Caiaphas: Well, what do you think? A traitor, revolutionary, and seditionist who needs to be executed immediately, don’t you agree?

Pilate: We must be talking about two different men. He’s interesting, but that’s about it. A seditionist? A trait…
