Jehoshaphat Appoints Judges: 19:4–11 This section, which departs from the Deuteronomistic source text in Kings, describes the judicial reforms of King Jehoshaphat (see Additional Note on 17:7–9 and 19:4–11). The Chronicler sets the judicial reforms in a theological framework: Jehoshaphat . . . turned them (i.e., the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim) back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
