I like the story of the family who moved into a new community. As the moving van was being unloaded, the husband went over to speak to the man next door who was mowing his lawn. After introducing himself, the new resident asked, “How are the neighbors around here?” The man did not bat an eye as he replied, “How were they where you came from?”
That makes the point, doesn’t it? Our expectations determine our perceptions -- we get what we seek. Assume that most persons are weak, mean, and conniving, and they will be -- for us. Make up our minds that we will be bored at the party -- and we will be.
Conversely, believe that life is a wonder to celebrate and embrace it with joy -- and it will be. Watch for wayside miracles and they will break open everywhere. Be convinced that dreams come true and they will -- for us.
