What a blessing to be with you all on this Pentecost Sunday! Today we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the people and thereby giving birth to the church of Jesus Christ. We come to celebrate the wonder and power of God’s love in Jesus that calls us into community and service together. And truly we come this day to celebrate the great gift we have in Jesus Christ himself.

This all sounds great, doesn’t it? I love a celebration! Who doesn’t? Especially if it’s a birthday and everyone is invited. Heck, there is even some Spirit power and patting ourselves on the back because we have the Spirit of God with us. So, why am I feeling a little unsettled as I read this scripture today?
