Theme: Offering obedience
Exegetical note
This passage builds on a central theme of the high priesthood of Christ Jesus. In that capacity, he did what humanity was expected to do, but because of sin could not do, namely, offer to God (in addition to prayers, supplications, cries, and tears) perfect obedience. In so doing, he redeemed all who then would offer him obedience, which is, if not perfect, at least now acceptable.
