How fitting a text for Father's Day--a reflection upon the work of God the Father. For whether you take this as a description of God as Father or God as Mother (all this creating and begatting seem a good deal more maternal than paternal to me), it is a delightful, childlike moving symphony of creativity. God is the busy masterworker, making light and dark, moon and stars, fish and fowl, begatting; birthing, shaping, muttering to him/herself, “good,” “yes, very good,” finally knocking off at the end of the week for a well deserved rest.
