In 1947 postwar Scotland, the First International Festival of Music and Drama was conceived by a group of artists wanting to rejuvenate the cultural milieu. The war had decimated many of Europe’s cities known for the arts, and people were exhausted from the fear, terror, and grief caused by the war.
