Theme: Servant-stewards vs. status seekers
Exegetical note
Still in the background of Paul's thoughts here is the problem of party-loyalties that he raised in the first chapter. Now he asserts that true spiritual leaders are to be servants and stewards of "God's mysteries" (which for Paul means the gospel itself) - presumably rather than popular luminaries or status-seekers - and that they are to be judged, not by present human standards, but eschatologically by God.
