Gospel Note
This passage presents a conventional miracle story with Mark's distinctive "secrecy" motif inserted. Having cleansed the leper, Jesus charges him to tell the priest about it but otherwise to keep quiet. The man proceeds to spread the word, attracting to Jesus the kind of attention that the latter apparently had wanted to avoid.
