The point of this miracle, reported only by John, is unclear at best. Jesus at first apparently refuses to act, then acts so as to produce an enormous quantity of wine, a miracle that "manifested Jesus' glory," but God knows how! Yet, the account's ambiguity may be its most important lesson: the meaning of Jesus' ministry gradually unfolds from confusion at Cana to clarity at Calvary -- an epiphany in process.
