John's Gospel has a characteristic "realized eschatology," in which, with Jesus' giving of the Spirit, the parousia has, in effect, been accomplished. Accordingly, the present passage suggests that under the "counsel" of the invisible, indwelling Spirit, believers will be able to see Jesus when others do not and, further, that the ever-presence of the Christ will be life giving.
