Theme: The Church as community

Exegetical note
The picture of the earliest Church painted here refers almost exclusively to its life "in house" rather than its mission (e.g., the edifying didache is mentioned rather than the kergyma addressed to the non-believers). The fellowship (koinonia) in verse 42 is elaborated with the subsequent reference to fellowship, prayers, community of property (a primitive communism!), and communal meals - all portraying a charismatic community, not yet an institution, in which sharing is spontaneous and thoroughgoing.
