One evening a fellow went up to the desk in the hotel lobby to register. A large dog lying in front of the desk made him nervous. The desk clerk greeted him. Uneasy, the man asked, "Does your dog bite?" The desk clerk simply said, "No." With that assurance the man decided he would pet the dog. Just as he put his hand down, the dog bit him sharply. In pain, he said, "I thought you said your dog wouldn't bite!" "I did," replied the clerk. "But he bit me! Here, look at my hand."
I like what the desk clerk said in return, "Sir, that's not my dog."
It's very important that we ask the right questions, isn't it? The questions we ask determine the answers we get. One of the big questions we ask is: why are you punishing me this way? And we're talking to God. The truth is God doesn't punish us. We need to ask, "What do you want to teach me in this?"
So, examine the questions you ask. Instead of why -- why is this happening to me, ask what could I learn from this experience.
