Do You Have Any ID?

Actor Tony Randall was window shopping along New York City's Madison Avenue. As he walked past a jewelry store he was attracted by a handsome gold chain in the window.

He entered the shop and the proprietor immediately recognized him. "Tony Randall," he said, "in my shop! I can't believe it! You're my favorite actor!" On and on he went until finally he said, "Please, Mr. Randall, let me call my wife and tell her you're in the shop. She's a great fan of yours. Maybe you wouldn't mind saying hello to her."

Almost hysterical the man called his wife and told her the news. "He's standing right here, next to me," he screamed into the phone.

Randall graciously said a few words to the man's wife, hung up the phone and announced he would like to purchase the gold chain. "How much is it?" he asked. When he heard the price, he realized that he didn't have that much cash with him nor did he have any credit cards.

"Will you accept my personal check?" he asked, to which the proprietor replied, "Do you have any identification?" Sunday Sermons, 2-92.
