Lizzie (disheveled puppet, dowdy, poor) — nonspeaking
Paul (puppy) — nonspeaking

(The play opens with Odie and Carl talking.)

Odie: I can hardly wait. I’m so excited. It’s almost here ... Christmas! Oh, my — oh, me. I can’t stand it. I get to open presents!

Carl: Presents? Did someone say presents?

Odie: Yes, I did. Do you like presents, too, Carl?

Carl: Do I like presents? Is the pope Catholic? Are crocodiles green? I love presents almost more than anything. I hope to get tons of them for Christmas.

Odie: Me, too, Carl, me, too. I hope I get truckloads. I hope I get 497 presents this Christmas.
