Theme: Christ as our true brother

Exegetical note
Building upon the presupposition of the Christ's preexistence (1:1-4), the author here is at pains to assert the full humanity of this "pioneer" of salvation: he has the same origin as all his human siblings, he took the same "flesh and blood" nature as all God's children, and he is like them "in every respect," even in the experience of suffering and temptation.
