SUBJECT:  Communication, growing up 

CHARACTERS:  Dad, Son (fourteen or fifteen years old) 

SETTING:  Living room 

PROPS:  None necessary.  Might want to use mail,

schoolbooks, book bag, etc. 

Dad:  "Hey, how was your day?" 

Son:  "Fine." 

Dad:  "Just fine?  Are your classes going

well?" 

Son:  "Yeah." 

Dad:  " Yeah'' as in,  I''m making B''s and C''s'', or 

Yeah,'' as in, If I sit behind the bigger kids in class, I won''t have to answer

any questions this whole semester?''" 

Son:  "They''re going fine, Dad.  Just  cause I don''t

give you a blow-by-blow account of every little lecture doesn''t mean anything''s

wrong." 

Dad:  "Well, if you''d say more than five words every

day I wouldn''t even ask you.  But all I ever get is  Fine.''  You should be an

actor.  I don''t know anyone else who can give …
